My Dearest Students,

17 years ago, I took my first yoga class and found a passion, a calling. What began as a hobby turned quickly into much more. I began devoting any free time I could find to learning anything I could about this practice. At the time, I was living in Chicago, but preparing to move to Amsterdam for my work as a consultant. It was in Amsterdam that I found my own first teachers, Therese and Lydia, who had learned from Mary, who many of you have met - that is the tail end of your yoga lineage. Their passion for teaching was palpable and I was eager to learn how to quiet my mind and heal my body with this amazing yoga. After spending six years in practice, in 2006, I passed up a partnership with my firm to take a sabbatical, leaving my home and job to immerse myself in yoga training. Halfway through that training, I quit my job and devoted myself to bringing this healing practice to others.

The Congolese Bembe are a displaced group from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Conflict in the DRC has been going on for more than 18 years. The total population of refugees and internally displaced persons is more than 3 million, slightly larger than the population of metropolitan St. Louis. Since 2001, the US has resettled more than 10,000 Congolese.

The Bembe come from South Kivu, an eastern portion of the country that borders Rwanda and Burundi, and were greatly affected by the Second Congo War of 1998, often called "Africa's World War" because of the number of countries involved.

A large amount of Congolese refugees have fled to the neighboring countries of Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, or Burundi. Additionally, many of those being resettled have been subsistence farmers in the past, and cannot read or write, making it especially challenging to adjust to life in a new country.

Through the International Institute of St. Louis, EveryBody Yoga has adopted a refugee family from the Democratic Republic of Congo this holiday season. Our adopted family has seven children (Sofia (14), Fikito (11), Malenga (9), Mwashite (5), Gerald (7), Sadick (3), and Safi (infant)). Mother (Jaquilina) and Father (Mbeome) are currently taking English classes and jobs skill training classes as they were previously farmers.

Thanksgiving Morning, won't you please join us to celebrate all of the things we are thankful for! Suggested donation is $25 (give what you can). In lieu of the $25 donation, you can bring a gift! Cash or check donations only.

If you haven't yet joined in on Yoga Bingo, pick up a bingo card at the front desk next time you take class! Get a sticker for every mini challenge you complete. Do you have famous locations around St. Louis on your card? For these items, go to the location, take a photo of yourself in a yoga pose, then tag us on social media! Or even better, we are organizing a group outing next Saturday the 29th (after the Halloween classes) so we can all do this together. Are you ready to change your life? We want to help!

On September 24, 2016 we will kick off our second Total Transformation Challenge of this year! Take 9:30 am class and stay after for weigh in and meet and greet!

Do you have a BMI of 30 or higher? Then you qualify! We are all in this together...join together with other individuals looking to make a big change to their lifestyles - everything is easier when you do it with partners or as a team.

During this 3 Month Total Transformation Challenge, you will commit to yourself and to the rest of the team that you will practice yoga a MINIMUM of 4 times per week on average throughout the Challenge. You will enjoy a special rate of $69 per month. At the end of each month (i.e., the 23rd of October and November), we will check to see if you have an average of 4 classes per week. If you DO NOT meet that requirement at the end of Month 1, you will forfeit your rate of $69 per month and switch to our normal Autopay rate of $89 per month for the following two months. Come and join us in St. Louis for four days of Yoga Awesome! Mary has been practicing Hot Yoga for over 32 years. She has a wealth of knowledge and is not to be missed! She has served as a mentor to countless teachers over the years. She is twice named "Who's Who in Bikram Yoga" by Yoga Journal Magazine as one of the top three Bikram teachers in the world. She has been Head Coach in the International Yoga Asana Championships for over 13 years, and is a leading expert on the use of yoga as therapy.

The event will be running from September 29th to October 2nd. Come as many days as you can, EveryBody is welcome and the more the merrier! The schedule will include:
