My Dearest Students,

17 years ago, I took my first yoga class and found a passion, a calling. What began as a hobby turned quickly into much more. I began devoting any free time I could find to learning anything I could about this practice. At the time, I was living in Chicago, but preparing to move to Amsterdam for my work as a consultant. It was in Amsterdam that I found my own first teachers, Therese and Lydia, who had learned from Mary, who many of you have met - that is the tail end of your yoga lineage. Their passion for teaching was palpable and I was eager to learn how to quiet my mind and heal my body with this amazing yoga. After spending six years in practice, in 2006, I passed up a partnership with my firm to take a sabbatical, leaving my home and job to immerse myself in yoga training. Halfway through that training, I quit my job and devoted myself to bringing this healing practice to others.

Throughout my early days teaching in Amsterdam and the ownership of my two schools--one in Chicago and one in my native St. Louis--I have met so many extraordinary people, students and teachers alike! I can't even begin to describe the elation I have felt when hearing another one of you had reached a milestone, eliminated (or reduced) a medication, lessened symptoms of disease, healed an injured body part, become yoga mommas to our lovely yoga babies, and so much more. I'm sure you all know of my own physical triumphs in staying off pain medications and avoiding neck spine surgery since my car accident earlier this decade. Mental triumphs are more difficult to describe in shorter form.

My St. Louis school on S. Grand has certainly had its ups and downs since December of 2012 when we first opened our doors. After normal growing pains for a new business, we blossomed into a thriving community. Many of you have been around long enough to know that the studio saw a big downturn, along with many businesses in the neighborhood, in November of 2014. It was small at the onset, unnoticeable, but reached its crest in the middle of the following summer. I began waitressing to pay my own bills and keep the teachers employed, pulling out all the stops to make sure we, as a community, could stay together! It worked enough that I could keep everything in operation through that tough year of 2015. 2016 was a fun time of regrowth - old faces returning and new faces taking the school in a new direction with our Total Transformation Challenges and addition of juice. It was amazing to watch the community begin anew!

You are wonderful group of yoga practitioners and it does not go unnoticed. Not only in the yoga room, but outside of it as well. Our yoga family has made some notable contributions to the community surrounding us! In 2016 alone, we donated over $2,000 worth of school supplies to children in need and over $4,000 in cash and goods to our adopted refugee family from the Congo.

Unfortunately, our time together in this marvelous space is coming to an end. My relationship with the building's owners had always been amicable, but when I entered a negotiation meeting this past Tuesday, May 2, I was given terms of more than tripling (almost quadrupling) my current rent to stay in this space, and only two choices-agree to this rent or walk away altogether. As much as I would love to continue operating here, this occurred with no warning and no ability to plan, so I am left with no choice but to close down. Even more unfortunately, it is in short order. I attempted to discuss shorter-term extension possibilities with the landlord (who would only allow such at double rent), and as my current business license to operate the yoga school expires May 31, I am left with no option but to shut down as I cannot so quickly invest in another space to operate (it has taken upwards of seven months for construction build-out of each of my two yoga schools). I will keep my email list active - as well as our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts and will post there when I teach around the city and/or have ideas for the future.

If I have seemed overwhelmed or tired to you in the past few days, this is why. I could have dragged this month out and shut down abruptly, but that did not feel right to me. Nor does waiting until the final details of our departure are ironed out as that may involve some legal jockeying. This community means the world to me and while we are losing our physical practice space, I am sure we will continue to see each other in the future. Please come practice often over the next few weeks. The teachers and I may be a little emotional and will try to keep everything as "normal" as it was before this knowledge. For me, in particular, if I seem teary at any time, please let it be. Discussions with my staff this week were difficult and we are all heartbroken to leave each other. I am a firm believer that life closes a window to open a door, but I would be remiss if I did not claim what is happening in our yoga space to be too quick for comfort.

If you have a 10 or 20 Lesson Card please come practice as often as you can. Whatever is left on our closing date will be honored at Pure Hot Yoga St. Louis (with many thanks to Erin and Carol, who were there for my beginning and are a rock for me in this transition as well). I will communicate more details on that as soon as I can.

Please use your account credit prior to our closing date. Account credit and gift cards can be used for classes, retail, juice, rentals, etc.

Questions about how you can help -

If you haven't visited in a while, please come spend some time with us before we go! Every penny you spend here will be used for final payment to the teachers and relocating the juicing kitchen as soon as we can, not to mention the costs of abruptly closing out the yoga business. This coming so unexpectedly just after tax season is of concern. In the next day or two, I will be revising the price offerings to show what we can offer until we close for those of you who are not on an Autopay or Class Card package.

If you know of a space that would be perfect for our juice (or anyone with a food-truck type truck to sell), please let us know as that is much easier to relocate than a yoga school. We would love to be operable as quickly as possible with the juice segment! Anything from a commercial or catering kitchen to a storefront would be useful while in transition. We may be able to keep the juicing business at this location on Grand through June 30, that remains to be seen, but it honestly doesn't feel very comfortable.

If you cannot afford to take class, please come anyway! This school was always meant to be a community based effort. I have always tried to bring in those who could not afford yoga and now, more than ever, I would love to see all of you here as much as you can be these last few weeks! You can pay us in service - your service being entering with a smile and helping us have fun.

Help our staff (and me) to go out with a bang by staying positive and upbeat. Let us all have FUN until we must depart our space together! I expect loads of laughter to fill the halls as we enjoy this time together.

Sometime in the next week, I will determine what day the last class will be. My best guess is that we will hold our final class on Sunday, May 28 (whether or not the juice kitchen remains open through June 30 in this same spot). I'm hoping we may see some old teacher faces for this class (though the last minute request may be too costly for most of them to be here).

I sincerely thank you for your understanding and support! This is the one thing that is out of my hands. You all mean the world to me and I will cherish the memories I have of this school for the rest of my life! To Catherine, Charles, Krutie, MaryBeth, Shannon, and Stefani (and Ainsley, Allan, Catherine, Clayton, David, Elizabeth, Erin, Natalie, Kelsey, Rosalie and anyone I may have forgotten) - these years would not have been possible without you.

Join us for our final class in this space on Sunday, May 28 at 12:00 pm. We will have snacks and juice after, made by our own Mary, who you see in the juice kitchen daily! Please sign up for this class in advance so we can gauge attendance and food! Let us fill the room and enjoy each other!

Our Philosophy

EveryBody Yoga teaches an all-levels yoga sequence designed to scientifically warm and stretch muscles, ligaments and tendons, in the order in which they should be stretched. Our Yoga is performed in a room heated slightly above your body’s core temperature so you are able to safely stretch, increase your heart rate, bring fresh blood to the skin, and detoxify your body!

Our posture series systematically moves fresh, oxygenated blood to one hundred percent of your body, to each organ and fiber, restoring all systems to healthy working order, just as Nature intended. Proper weight, muscle tone, vibrant good health, and a sense of well-being will automatically follow. Our 60 and 90 minute classes are suited for all levels of yoga practice. You will be challenged no matter what!

All you need for yoga is a spine…it doesn’t even have to be a healthy* spine!

We offer a more advanced series by invitation. Please talk to us if you are interested in attending these classes.

Are you injured? We can help! Our approach to yoga practice is therapeutic. Every body can practice here, no exceptions. Our facilities (and yoga series) are wheelchair accessible. We have students practicing through herniated discs, general back pain, sciatica, MS, arthritis, etc. to help deal with chronic pain and disease. We will work with the student and their doctor to help them do the postures in a way that is safe and healing for their body. Even with the most extreme injuries we can assist you.

Jessica Rask grew up in St. Louis, Missouri as the oldest of seven children. She had a very active childhood, encouraged by her athletic parents to become involved in a variety of sports including soccer, field hockey, volleyball, basketball, and softball. Jessica attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor where her interest in team sport never faltered, but its priority in her life fell to the side as she balanced a full-time job and a full-time class load. Upon graduation from Michigan, Jessica moved to Chicago to begin working a business consulting job demanding 60-70 hours per week...


Kelsey grew up in Geneva, Illinois, and began practicing hot yoga nice and early--when she was 19 years old! Her mom enjoyed a regular practice and experienced decreased back pain, so she suggested that Kelsey try a class to heal and strengthen after an ankle injury. What she ended up finding was a practice that continues to help her manage daily stress, clear and organize her thoughts, strengthen her body, enhance her flexibility, and teach her the importance of patience. Now, Kelsey and her mom have been yoga buddies for more than three years!

Mary Beth explored yoga for the first time in 2008, with the intention to reduce stress and help with lower back issues. In 2009, she had two surgeries in her right hand. Since she couldn’t apply any pressure to her hand, she tried hot yoga at the advice of a friend. Her healing was accelerated and within one month, her range of motion was 100% improved and her L4/L5 bulging disc pain was significantly reduced.

Rosalie has been practicing yoga since she was 17 at schools in Chicago, Montreal, Paris, and is happy to be joining Jessica’s studio in St. Louis! Her yoga practice has been important for managing stress in university, recovering from a rib cage injury, and for introducing her to an awesome community of yogis. Rosalie keeps doing yoga mainly because it is fun and interesting, and it has the added benefit of keeping her body healthy and strong. She competed in the 2013 Canadian National Yoga Asana Championships.
